When the cats away...
Apr. 7th, 2005 11:07 pmIt's amazing how long it takes to check emails, livejournal and various fanfiction sites when you've only been missing for one day. C and I went to see the 8.30pm session of Constantine last night. It was an interesting movie, although far more like a horror than I expected. I liked Constantine better than expected. He's a bit of a jerk in the comics, which I gave up on.
C. also loaned me her new Christine Feehan books. While the premise is amusing, I have to wonder what would happen if you slashed one of them (which I was really tempted to do, but the guy involved found his lifemate anyway) or took the series to a natural extreme. They're called dark fantasy by some reviewers, but I wouldn't go that far. Dark, sure, in the vampire macho male sense. But I find that I'm growing more and more irritated with the traditional sort of man in a romance novel; tall, dark (or fair), brooding, powerful, stronger/faster than the female and the type who insist on protecting their females. One of these books in particular bugged me some. I vaguely like him, didn't like her and kinda liked one of the family. The second one was better and I haven't started the third yet.
However, by pure random chance, I did read the first part of a series in which the reverse happens - the man willingly and voluntarily submits to his mate, his lady. The scene was very sweet and the link is here. HP. Harry/Snape (don't let this put you off), Hermione/Vincent Crabbe, a non-omnipotent Dumbledore, a Dark Queen Ginny.
Have been eating cheese, reading and trying to convince myself that it would be a good idea to tidy up my room. Correction, I know it would be a good idea to tidy my room, it's just that I haven't had much success in convincing myself to do so. Also, I have inherited a bookcase from one of my flatmates, B. He's been given some cabinets and doesn't need the bookcase anymore. This is good for me, and assuming that I take away the one I just put my foot through the back of, will give me four bookcases when I leave this place. Certainly not enough to be anything useful, but far better than nothing.
And now, since I have been getting back into the habit of actually going to be early-ish and getting up on time or so, I shall go to bed now.
