So, given that I've had the last few to myself, I ended up doing things instead. On Saturday, I filled in for the Cyberpunk LARP—the Ch'akta Peace Accords.

I was Moriah Beau, a xenobiologist... )

Then a group of us went out afterward (I totally bought into [livejournal.com profile] purplesparkler's assertion that Sunday is a day of rest from Lent and after midnight totally counted as Sunday), which mean after I got home at 2am and to sleep around 3am and then got up again around 8am for church since I was helping out, I kinda regretted it. Not enough that I wouldn't do it again, but I did feel somewhat delicate and had two cups of coffee and a cup of tea before lunch...

Had lunch with some of my age group from church, which was nice; I haven't seen most of them for ages, and it was good to catch up.

Then it was out to the Kilbirnie Festival, since I'd said that I would help out collecting for the Red Cross' Christchurch Appeal. [livejournal.com profile] rincewindtvd was there too, and F drove us back to Northland. We went in for a cup of tea and stayed for a bbq after S & S invited us up for dinner. Got home around 8.30, had a shower and more or less collapsed for the night.

Tonight was the regular social grade frisbee game. It was rather windy tonight, which meant for a very low-scoring game. We played Ultimowarriors (I think—Ultimo something, anyway), who are mostly new players. I swear one of the points took half the game. It was fun though, and I was happier with how I played than I have been for a while.

Back to work today for the first time in nearly a month. I did a lot of filing, was tired from about 11.00am onwards and bored enough at the end of the day to Not Care and troll Tenancy Tribunal Orders.

Wellington Anniversary Weekend was the usual sugar/caffeine high people overdose gaming weekend. I probably didn't have enough caffeine or sugar over the weekend. Next year, I think I'll buy a four pack of bottles of V, not cans.

Kapcon Games )

Did nothing yesterday until I was due at [livejournal.com profile] stephanie_pegg's for the BHS game which I've now joined on a permanent basis. I'm in the process of coming up with a long term character. It should be fun.

Lectures start on 9 February, so I'll be playing frisbee Tuesday nights until then. Life is already starting to get busy.
nishatalitha: image: lots of ladybirds crawling up fencepost. white rope is wrapped twice around top of fencepost (Let's see what happens (Vorkosgian))
After some discussion with the Comcon, the For the Honour of the Family has been moved back to Friday night at 8.00pm, so I will be running it then and going to the con on Friday. If anyone did not get a chance to play in it at Kapcon and would still like to, please come along and play. Con entry for the day is $25.00.

Feel free to email me separately or comment here if you're interested - the sooner I can start casting, the better.

Might also go on Sunday, but probably not. Sleeping in and doing nothing on at least one day sounds like a good plan.
nishatalitha: image: lots of ladybirds crawling up fencepost. white rope is wrapped twice around top of fencepost (Changling 103 (horns and music))
For all that I talked about (or think I talked about as sometimes I'm not sure of the difference) about slowing down, about being less busy and easing some things out of my life, it hasn't really worked. Maybe after this weekend - and the week after Easter, I don't have class, so that should make things easier to.

I'm currently trying to work out how much of Conjunction I want to attend. The entire thing is (currently) $100, but I believe that goes up if you register on the day and I certainly don't want to use my entire Easter with the SF Con. Each individual day is about $25 at the moment. I have go on Friday as I'm running For the Honour of the Family again and with any luck, I'll get a full cast. That would be neat. But for the rest of it - well, [livejournal.com profile] maudlinrose and [livejournal.com profile] tamarillow aren't currently planning to attend or attend much and they're the usual people I'd hang out with at this event. I'm not sure what [livejournal.com profile] darthsappho and [livejournal.com profile] tofulope are doing either. It is not that I don't believe that getting to know new crazy people at a con is a bad thing - one of my good friends I met at the last con I went to - but I don't have the energy or the time, really, to put into new people when I am changing how I relate to other people in my life and am focusing a lot on that aspect.

So if you are planning to attend, do let me know, and maybe we can work out something together.

I failed at getting to bed before midnight last night or the night before, and once again, I didn't get to the gym on time, so it's definite - I have to be asleep before midnight. I must be getting old. So I shall finish writing this post, make my lunch, finish chatting to Alessan, make my lunch and go to bed. Probably to read, but I'm more inclined to turn my light out if I'm already in bed.

The handwork is into its final stage (I just need to buy some black thread and think about spacing) and then I can do some nice ordinary uncomplicated counted crossstitch like the maidens and that will be good.
nishatalitha: slightly crumpled white sheets, small text= "sleep now" (Sleep now)
I had an awesome Anniversary weekend. At Kapcon, I played in [livejournal.com profile] andymacdaddy's Seven Samurai of P-ram to begin with, a More Violence Pro-Wrestling supernatural game in which I got to play two midgets. I played in Gargle past Threep, a time-police game in which I was a member of the Women's Auxiliary and we actually had to do something besides fill out forms. I skipped third round Saturday, ran For the Honour of the Family fourth round, played in The Graduate, another small LARP set in a wizards college and then in one of [livejournal.com profile] house_monkey's Dr Who games sixth (and last) round.

Also on Saturday, I played in the big LARP, Sanctuary. I played Maria, a Lady-in-Waiting from Madrigal and a spy. I was also three months pregnant and thus needed to get married, which I did - to the father of the baby, no less. We'd spent half the game casting speaking looks at each other and abruptly going in the opposite direction before we actually spoke to each other. Maria was remarkably distracted from her job after that.

But my favourite in game moment was something else, although the conversation Berowne and Maria had when they actually spoke again was also very good. Maria was friends with Garramond, Prince of Madrigal and a bard. He had light and dark blue ribbons tied around one arm (which I'd tied on for him) and at one point, he publically announced that they'd stay on his arms until he was able to give them to his One True Love. Later on, he got me to untie them (during which scene said One True Love walked in, congratulated him and fled) and go over to his One True Love and ask Veran to marry him. So I got to walk over with these dark blue ribbons draped over my outspread hands and say "My lord Garramond wishes to offer you these ribbons and with them his hands and his heart." It was awesome.

On Sunday, there's the prizegiving. Most of it is decided on the day - people get given prizes for witty comments and the like. There's a best player, best GM and so forth. But there is also a Scenario Design Competition, wherein one writes a roleplaying game and submits it to the organisers about two or three months beforehand. It is judged by a professional author who is also a gamer and announced on Sunday. G., F. and I submitted For the Honour of the Family, a fourteen person miniature LARP and we won! It weighs in at over 60 pages in .pdf format (with each page once) and over 100 if you print out enough copies for everything. I'm still gloating.

Should anyone need a family-political fourteen person LARP, do let me know and I shall email it over.

Crashed Monday, unsurprisingly and am still tired. Frisbee tonight was challenging. There was a decent wind and a misty rain. I had to decide whether I wanted to wear my glasses and look through fog or not wear my glasses and get a headache. I switched between them.

Took my brother's wedding present in to get framed today. They reckon they might be able to have it done in time; certainly they will call me if they can't. Tried to talk me into lacing it myself and if I'd had the time and didn't need it by next Monday, I probably would have. He remembered me from the last time I was in, about a year and a half ago with my sister's wedding present. Next one that gets done I'll try lacing it myself.

I think I will make my lunch, pack my gym bag and go to bed. Mmmm, bed.

On National Radio recently, there was an item about Ultimate. J passed on the link, so I thought I'd post it. Apparently it's only valid for about a week, but it's quite interesting and a nice introduction to Ultimate. I'm passing it around various people who may or may not be interested but get to hear me talk about it anyway.

There was Confusion yesterday, en masse at Turnbull House. Something over 30 people turned up for Confusion 5 and I was there for the whole day, even though I'd gone to bed the night before at 2am after making gingerbread and printing off character sheets.

Games )

LARP: For the Honour Of the Family (playtest specific spoilers) ).

So it was a really good day and I'm just recovering today. I was very tired anyway and really needed a day at home to do nothing (and by do nothing, I mean at some point I'm probably going to clean the bathroom and get the flatmates to help me clean the lounge and the dishes at some point). Nothing that really requires thinking anyway.

Lunchtime!
nishatalitha: slightly crumpled white sheets, small text= "sleep now" (Sleep now)
At half past one in the morning, my bed is looking rather appealing. However, I can't go to bed until I've finished printing stuff. By which I mean the Cantacuzino Larp stuff. Fourteen character sheets (at a minimum of two pages each), fourteen general knowledge sheets (two pages each) and fourteen copies of the Family tree (one page). I can't actually do the last, since it was composed via remote access and is far too illegible on my printer, so I'm going to leave it and if necessary we can come up here tomorrow and print it off the remote desk top. I'm glad I have a lot of paper. It is a shame, because it looks quite good and complicated and being able to take everything down tomorrow morning would be great.

Tobias, despite having been neutured today, has been relatively cheerful, if a little quieter than usual. He's currently settling down on the end of my bed and if he remains settled when I go to bed, he can stay. Jemima, having only gone to the vet for a booster shot and have her teeth looked at, disappeared outside shortly after we got home and has been sulking ever since.

I also made gingerbread this evening. I started making it about 11pm and it finished an hour or so later. I forget what time exactly. Before I finished printing things, anyway. It looks fantastic. I ended up cooking it in an oval dish and it's nicely shaped and golden and when it's cooled, I'm going to wrap it in tinfoil until Monday. I'll buy some cream and yogart on Sunday and it can be served warm with those. The gingerbread is my bake-off entry and I would like it to do really well and if I get through the heat, I could experiment with something interesting the next time.

Turns out that I'm the only person on my floor at work with a valid first-aid Certificate (expires mid-August). I'm not sure if it's going to be renewed at this stage, but there is a great sense in irony in me being the first-aider when I'm one of the people who tends to get injured. And I'm not very good at first-aiding myself.

I really should go and make my lunch now, but I think I'll fall into bed as soon as I can instead. I'm doing well enough to take each page out of the printer but at the moment, cutting up vegetables is probably a bad plan.

EDIT: Done! Bedtime!
nishatalitha: image: lots of ladybirds crawling up fencepost. white rope is wrapped twice around top of fencepost (Changling 91 (purple laces))
The cats got their first visit to the vet today. I'd tired them out previously by sitting outside in the sun on the kitchen chair watching them race around outside, so when the three of us went inside again, they settled down very easily and which made it a lot easier to put them in the catboxes.

Jemima was, surprisingly, on her best behaviour. I had thought she would be growling and spitting and absolutely furious with me, but instead she stayed on the stainless-steel table and was affectionate and smoochy. She even purred. The vet couldn't hear her heartbeat because she was purring so loudly. She was fairly sure Jemima doesn't have a heart murmur anyway. Jemima weighs 4.33kgs at the moment and is probably about six years old, which is a lot younger than I was expected. But clearly happy and healthy, which was good to hear. And she has now had a flu-jab and goes back in three weeks for the booster. I am considering getting her micro-chipped when I can afford it. Not that she wanders; I'm just paranoid.

She is currently curled up sleeping on my bare duvet and the pile of clean washing on my bed. Tobais (also jabbed and weighed) is dozing on the other side of the pile of clean washing, on the bottom duvet.

G came over this afternoon and we got a decent amount of LARP work done. I have a couple of characters to finish and I have to type up what I have, but we are on track. Now we only need people who want to play the characters...

This evening, some friends of mine were having a winter warming party (cheese fondue and mulled wine). I rarely see some of these people, so went along. It was fun. And as often happens at these parties, I turned to A. and said "This is neat music. What is it?" and was promptly informed. Whereupon I muse about borrowing it. Last time, I had his Cradle of Filth CD for absolutely ages. This time, he burned me Leave's Eyes and Liv Kristine, which I liked and Nightwish, which he thought I might like. It's rather cool. Semi-operatic, but with these heavy metal type sections and the male singer sometimes reminds me of the Cradle of Filth lead singer...

I should fold my washing and move it so I can go to bed.

Don't ask me why it's called African Peanut Soup when there aren't any African peanuts in it, because I don't know and any answer I give you will range from the weird to the wonderful but contain nothing of the truth.

And as soon as I get around to opening up my work email I shall post the LARP blurb to NZRag. It just occured to me that we need a name for it...
nishatalitha: image: lots of ladybirds crawling up fencepost. white rope is wrapped twice around top of fencepost (Silence heralds joy)
I have been vastly distracted this week with study and embroidery. No, not my dragon. I did a Christmas decoration from a kit that Mum bought when I was up north earlier this year. It's very beaded and stuffed and I may yet do another one for our flat. Test was disturbingly easy, so either I'm doing something right or I'm doing something wrong - and I'm not the only one in my class who thought this. We started ten-fifteen minutes late and I walked out twenty minutes early and this was a two hour test!

Have been reading actual books a bit lately. Ally by Karen Traviss (futuristic environmentalism taken to extremes), Kushiel's Scion by Jacqueline Carey (teenage angst with bad BDSM), Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie (light-hearted romance with food) and A History of Modern Japan by Richard Storry (interesting, especially around WWII, which reminded me of the army divisions in Barrayar). Am going to read Bismarck: the man and the statesman by A.J.P. Taylor next, as well as other books.

Legacy by Lois McMaster Bujold is released shortly. Sample chapters are available here. Only one is up at this stage, but I understand there'll be another one or two before the book is released in ten days or so. I'm looking forward to getting my copy and (eventually) being able to put my two hardcovers together to see the complete picture in front of me.

Jenny Craig's is going well. Am having trouble managing to eat everything on my menu, and miss not eating what I cook, but it's working and that's the main thing. Have lost weight, which pleases me.

The cold weather appears to have settled in. We had a fire on Tuesday night and it was so nice being able to get wood from under the house and know that there was plenty to burn. Some of the gorse is probably still too long to fit in the fireplace safely, but I'm sure it'll be fine.

Tobias remains entertaining. He and Jemima have begun to get along better. I kinda enjoy watching them chase each other around the lounge in the morning before I leave, especially when Jemima drugs herself up on catnip. Other than that, he still has to learn about not digging claws in and the like. And to leave various things alone and not jump on the table. He is growing at a phenomonal rate.

LARP writing is going well. I need to contact N to confirm things. We have yet to name characters, but most of them have a history and connections and goals. Over the next couple of weeks we have to name them and post a list for people indicate interest in. Still, Confusion is in August, so we have plenty of time, really.

Last night C and I went around to [livejournal.com profile] darthsappho and [livejournal.com profile] tofulope where we watched, various, The Call of Cthulu (the recent silent release) which was pretty good, Renaldo: first sheep on the moon ([livejournal.com profile] stephanie_pegg, I never knew you felt like that about sheep) and more Blackadder.

And now, seeing as my alarm is set for another six and a half hours and my fingers are going numb, I should go to bed.
nishatalitha: image: lots of ladybirds crawling up fencepost. white rope is wrapped twice around top of fencepost (The play's the thing)
I am drunk and am seriously thinking about writing a small (ten - fifteen people) LARP based off the Amber Chronicles with one of the people I wrote Once Upon A Time with.

I think I'm probably crazy.

Had a really good time at the engagement party, though. Lovely to see everyone again.

And I have pink and speckled M&Ms and when did those colours become normal? Still tastes the same but looks weird.
nishatalitha: image: lots of ladybirds crawling up fencepost. white rope is wrapped twice around top of fencepost (Default)
I was going to write this post last night, but I opened the update journal page, looked at the blank screen all ready for me to write on and couldn't think of a single thing to say. Still, I've been able to sleep in today, and I don't have to go out until about seven, so my day looks nice and relaxing so far...

Earthdawn finished this week. We actually survived! I didn't really expect it. It feels finished. The three of us came to points where we wanted to do different things. We'd done what we had set out to do (save the world) and we survived, and we all had goals to continue on with. I imagine Maree will, after the initial I-want-to-do-this in my head, will settle down into being a character that I might occasionally play with, but more likely not. Isthian settled down much more quickly than I expected, and her future felt a lot more nebulous. It could be without the regular reminders they fade. I suppose I just expected them to last longer in my head - they're probably the characters I've most enjoyed playing.

Life has generally been busy. Work is getting busier, which is lovely, and I'm still really enjoying it. [livejournal.com profile] maudlinrose's Mum left on Tuesday, and while it was nice having her visit, I always feel more constrained when there is another older adult in the house who have their own methods and ideas about whether dirty dishes and leftovers should be put away immediately, or can wait.

Wednesday night was C's birthday dinner. Her birthday was on Tuesday, but the dinner on Wednesday. We went to the Red Tomato, which was very nice. I ate far too much, but for some reason, was really hungry the next morning.

Thursday night we had a Hindenburg meeting. Which reminds me. If you're after a certain type of character whom you don't think is on the cast list, email one of us and say what you're after. A lot of the characters have secrets, and we can't exactly put what makes them interesting in the one liner! I should get on to writing the list of goals for each of mine... The next meeting is next Tuesday.

I went for a walk along the waterfront yesterday at lunchtime. I even got changed and everything. Only got as far as Waitangi Park, but it felt good to be doing some exercise again.

I have done most of my Friday night/Saturday things already. I still have to vaccum, but the bathroom is clean, and three loads of washing are sitting on the line. The next thing to do will probably be have lunch, and we had maintenance in our kitchen yesterday sanding things down and replastering, so the windows and door actually open and close easily, but it does mean there is some dust to get rid of.

Hmmm. Food. I wonder what there is to eat...
nishatalitha: image: lots of ladybirds crawling up fencepost. white rope is wrapped twice around top of fencepost (Moving bouncy)
I'm currently sequeeing because [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza recced my Atlantis, baby SGA fic on a 10 things she likes about the SGA fandom at #4. The last line, the one I wrote the story for. I've written one SGA fic, and in a fandom full of crack, it's a deathfic. I agree with a lot of her recs - the story ones, anyhow. Haven't downloaded the vids yet.

We lit the fire for the first time this weekend. It draws really well, and I'm the firelighter, apparently. All that practice with my parents woodburner is paying off. The basic principle of how it's laid out is the same. You just need to remember to check on it more regularly than a woodburner. But it works, and it's really neat.

Lace & Steel was very cool tonight, as Robert was finally rescued in a daring infilitration mission by Sebastian, with help from Esmerelda (planning) and myself (finances), and Dominici (support). I'm really looking forward to seeing how much decorum Isthian is going to lose when she sees him for the first time. How much will depend on how public it is, I guess, and how he's presented. Yay! *does happy dance* But it feels like we've actually accomplished something, and it's really good.

Also, I don't work tomorrow, which means I have a lot to do in the afternoon, but I can still sleep in and vaccum and the like. Earthdawn tomorrow night, and I'm looking forward to it, if only so that Maree will stop trying to be the center of attention in my head. I have a lot of characters, and rpg ones don't usually end up being story ones. Maree, because she's the most cheerful character I think I've ever had, wanders. Which is okay, but kinda weird. It's not as bad as Isthian wanting to be in the Firefly universe. Thank goodness I talked her out of that.

Played in Guild Council on Saturday night. It was lots of fun, and the team who organised it clearly put a lot of work into it. I'm not sure what they vaguely thought the end result might be, but at the end of the evening, the Terrans and the Jerali had allied together against the rest of the Guilds, and all the Terrans present were on the assassination list of the Shadow Guild. Also, I inadvertantly bought plague (the common cold) to Guildspace.

One of the things I found really fun was being infected by a mindleech. The person who did it was initially planning to give me a ring, and make me wear that, but I cleverly hadn't worn any rings that evening, and made up some cock and bull story about only ever wearing one to symbolise marriage. I was the Terran Anthropologist, and none of the Guilds knew anything about us, so it might have worked. I thought it was clever, anyhow. Alas, I was overpowered, and infected, and it was heaps of fun, trying for two sets of goals. I was almost disappointed when the leech was killed. Still, that was one of the things that made me much more agreeable to the alliance - I was rather suspicious of them beforehand.

End conclusion from the Terran Captain was that since all Guildspace members were descended from a colony ship sent out from Terra several thousand years ago, they were all subject to Terran law, and therefore we could just waltz in and pick up where we left off. Terra had the armada to do so.

This has ended up being a roleplaying post, which I didn't initially intend it to be, but oh well.
nishatalitha: image: lots of ladybirds crawling up fencepost. white rope is wrapped twice around top of fencepost (Schism by Leigh Badar)
Your local update on my leg. *grins* I'm quite fascinated watching this develop. I haven't bruised myself this badly since I fell off my bike when I was 15 and jammed my thigh between the frame and the handlebars. I got two bruises bigger than my hand on either side of my leg then and the resulting limping has screwed up my knees, particularly in cold weather.

The colour is darkening still on the patches where it just showed up yesterday. There's also a thumb-sized bit of purple/grey around the toothmarks. The odd bit is that although it hurts to touch the bits which have gone to grey/black, the palm sized area around the toothmarks which is still red/purple has gone numb. I mean, it hurts if I press down on it, but I can't actually feel my fingers on my skin. It's just a point of pressure. This is probably not a good thing.

However, I made an appointment at the Northland Medical Centre for tomorrow morning to get a flu vaccination (yes, I did mention that I had an immediate allergic reaction to the last one) and I'll ask them about my leg then. Because I'm thinking that no feeling in my skin is probably a bad thing. I also have an optomistrist appointment tomorrow afternoon at 3.15pm since I've been having trouble with my eyes at work and I went to the gynecologist's today.

I was pleasantly surprised not to get scolded about anything except one thing and that wasn't a serious scolding. She was actually quite pleased with me; said I was on the right track, that I needed to find a GP and update them on my information and stuff (I'll get various sources to send my records over), but I was going well and I don't need to go back unless something goes wrong again.

Oh, and apparently, the correct BMI weight for me is 58 kilos! I don't think I've weighed that since I was 15 or 16. I don't think my Mum has gotten down to that for a very long time (or until the last couple of years, for a very long time) and she's always been fairly skinny. So instead of the ten or so kilos I was going to try and lose by my birthday, that's twenty or so to work on. Is anyone sure that the BMI is right? Or is it just a working guideline/ideal weight thing?

Am going to leave for my LARP meeting in an hour or so. Meanwhile, I'm either going to do more of my dragon (I've decided upon working on that while I work out if I want to do something else) or write some more of the Christine Feehan/Rurouni Kenshin crossover that I have eleven pages of. Oh yes, and there's Schism.
