nishatalitha: slightly crumpled white sheets, small text= "sleep now" (Sleep now)
I have spent most of the day either on dialup downloading fic to read or off dialup reading said fic, lied when I said I wasn't going to catch up on livejournal and feel much better as a result.

I should be in bed asleep, but fic. Also I don't think I'll go to the gym tomorrow; for one thing, I can't be bothered dealing with the laundry before I go.

This is the first extended period of time I've had on the internet since the last time I posted and currently I don't care that I'm tying up the phone line; if people want to contact me on a Sunday afternoon for once, they can text me.

I have ridiculous amounts of livejournal to catch up with (ten days and counting) and considering we're on dialup at the moment, doubt I'll manage to do so before I go to Tauranga on the 23rd. I'll be able to catch up on some in Tauranga. I've managed to check my personal gmail/hotmail and trademe (we're finally advertising the motorbike) on the one machine at work that allows access to those sites, but I don't touch livejournal at work.

God, I miss broadband and my own firefox tabs. It's too much effort to install the dialup modem on my machine (and I have to have telephone cords everywhere and move my desk into the middle of my room), so I'm currently on [livejournal.com profile] maudlinrose's machine, since she left for Auckland this morning.

Telecom Trials and Tribulations )

I've spent some time this morning doing a bit more tidying and cleaning and generally putting things in a bit more order. We still have some unpacking to do (all the spare linen) and many many boxes to either return or put into storage. Straightened them out, packed away the bubble wrap, so it all looks much tidier now. My room isn't going to feel quite right until I have my jewellery on the walls again, but I need some pieces of dowel or something to hand them from and a backing fabric so the earrings don't scratch the walls.

The cats went into the cattery yesterday. It feels very strange not having them around. They took [livejournal.com profile] tamarillow and I through where they keep the cats and the girl said they usually have their lunchbreaks in the room and keep them company. I feel better having seen the place, but concerned about Jemima, who is both grumpy and doesn't like new experiences.

I'm alone in the house until this evening and again on Monday night, so if anyone would like to come around and keep me company, that would be nice. Comment or text to let me know.

Initial inspection - DONE!
New tenants - FOUND!

Lease is signed, they take over on the 18th and we move out on the 11th. This is pretty much as good as we could get.

My hair looked very fluffy today. I still very much like the new look and length, but it's settling down and hasn't looked the same two days in a row yet.

Showed another couple through the house this afternoon. They took an application form away with them, but I doubt we'll hear back.

Have also packed seven fairly large boxes of books. I've packed all my mass-market paperbacks and comics. That leaves the manga, hardbacks and non-fiction, all of which are more awkward to pack.

Our lounge does not look like our lounge now - the large mirror has been taken down and the holes where the house nails were patched with sealant prior to being touched up with paint. My room still looks much like my room, aside from one mostly empty bookcase and the complete lack of ornaments.

The cats are nervous and tense. Jemima has been through this before and is only really coming inside in the mornings and evenings in order to be fed. Tobias doesn't really know what's going on. I keep getting my weeks mixed up and thinking it's next week when it's not.

Still not sleeping particularly well - it's taking me ages to drop off once I hop into bed. Accidentally stayed up until 3am today watching all the episodes of 7 Periods with Mr Gormsby that I hadn't seen (about nine or so). It's a very good show and I recommend it.

Packing

The trademe ad for our house went up today and not long after we had a call from a couple who asked to come up and view it. They seemed nice and we will pdf their application form off on Monday. We also had a couple come through on their way back from a do at the British High Commission in Karori. They were pleasant enough and took an application form away with them, but our place will not be classy enough for them.

I think we're packing as though we're moving this Thursday, rather than the one after.

I like my new haircut.

Karori!

September is the insanely busy month in my flat - indeed, we're into the busy-ness by the end of August. So why, if we were sane, would we be thinking about moving in a few weeks? Place is out in Karori; I haven't seen it myself, but [livejournal.com profile] tamarillow and [livejournal.com profile] maudlinrose say that apart from the location and the timing, it's everything we could want. I'm going out to see it tomorrow after work.

Has anyone else had problems being overcharged with Snapper on the Mairangi bus route going into town? It's worth checking your balance, as both [livejournal.com profile] maudlinrose and I have been. We've both called about it and the people at the other end of the line have been both nice and sympathetic, but so far, ultimately unhelpful.

On the other hand, problems with Snapper triggered a spate of awful fish related puns this afternoon; I got some odd looks when I was cracking up as silently as I could at my desk.

I've rediscovered that watching something from my bed before I go to sleep is actually a better way to wind down and get into the mood for sleeping than reading in bed is. It's a lot easier to stop watching something when your eyes can't focus anymore than it is to stop reading a book. I'm much better about not watching another episode than I am about reading another chapter. I must keep this in mind after I've finished Read or Die and Witch Hunter Robin.

More work stuff: I rearranged PJS' office yesterday so that files are now all in alphabetical order. I'm currently doing DMH's office. She's away skiing in Wanaka at the moment, so I left it in a mess at the end of the day. She recently did a purge of stuff and has left me with a pile of stuff to put into new folders, so I rather think she's going to end up with more folders on her shelves than she had to begin with and that's with me getting rid of things easily available online, like the LINZ Acreditation Standards.

I've been reading Margaret Mahy young adult books recently; the ones I never read when I was a teenager. After all, what older book of hers could possibly compare to The Changeover. Wasn't hugely impressed with some of them. Catalogue at the End of the Universe was neat - Tycho is an awesome character - but Angela is too prickly for me to connect with. On the other hand, Memory, which I read today, resonates with me. Not so much like The Changeover does; more in the way that Chalion or maybe The Silver Metal Lover do. For the most part though, I like her short stories and children's books better.

And I totally used the shift key rather than capslock to type the title. Habit, I guess. I really need an OMG I'M MOVING icon, but since I don't have one, and I like my new one, that'll have to do.

My plan for this evening, after I got home from work, involved a 1.5L of Coca Cola, takeaways, ice cream, fanfiction, and packing. Well, I've had all of those, but there was more besides. [livejournal.com profile] mashugenah dropped by and kindly volunteered to take me and a load of things up to the new place. Which means Garden Verses is now hanging above the fireplace, and the kenwood mixer is sitting on the bench in the kitchen, since I couldn't decide where it should go, and the litter tray is filled and in the bathroom, ready for the cat. Thanks Mash!

After, I came home, bringing the vaccum cleaner box with me, which I have since used to pack kitchen stuff in, ate dinner, drank coke, watched [livejournal.com profile] anschee sort some of her files, and avoided packing some, mainly by reading fanfiction and eating ice cream, and picking up the cat carrier from [livejournal.com profile] darthsappho. Then [livejournal.com profile] house_monkey dropped around, with an offer of help for tomorrow morning (welcomed, but not actually necessary) and watched the cat do what she does, and me running around doing a (apparently) fairly poor imitation of a chicken with its head cut off. See, I'm quite happy panicking - as long as I have everything under control. And I pretty much do.

Then the real change to the evening came. [livejournal.com profile] maudlinrose called to say that the movers would need to be paid in cash, not through an invoice as she previously thought, and omg, could I please go into town and get some money out to pay them? So I caught the 10.03pm bus into town, and since the 10.15pm from town was running 15 minutes late (thank God for the Mairangi), I managed to do a quick turn around and come home earlier than I expected.

I really am almost packed. I have one, maybe two more boxes, and one of them will have pillows and stuff, and I can't pack those until the morning, because hey, I need to sleep on them tonight. The computer is the last thing getting packed tonight. I imagine I can sleep without music for one night.

But reading [livejournal.com profile] maudlinrose and [livejournal.com profile] jessikast's posts from earlier this evening is making me think about the three and a half years that I've lived here, and even more distantly about the six months that I lived in Newtown. I'm not sure how many flatmates I've had, but I'll try and make a list, since only one of them reads my lj anyway, and I'm not going to use her real name.

Newtown was only three people - Anna, Rachelle, and Shannon. I think I've known about an equal number of guys and girls called Shannon. Shannon at Newtown was a guy. Shannon who I work with is a girl. I'm never sure what gender someone is just from that name.

Harbour View Road, not in chronological order, with something I really remember about them

Hamish - had a broken ankle when I moved in
Nia - did crossstitch
Mikayla - used to own Jemima
James - tall, thin, blond?
Jake - moved to Tauranga to get married
Leanne - used to go out and get drunk at weekends
Craig - computer geek
Robbie - omfg Robbie=grossiest flatmate
Fiona - moved back to Nelson
Rachel - moved to Levin with boyfriend, planted geraniums
Steve Brassel - the weird one who did wrestling
Steve Gordon - has freak outs over dishes, dates Siren, who is lovely
[livejournal.com profile] anshee - friend, heaps of fun
Cameron - works nights, kinda antisocial, smokes
Yvonne and Marcus - the neat freaks who made off with my good non-serrated knife
Bruce - had the dog, Ishtar
Damien - ex-geography teacher, just back from the UK
Nathan - did a masters in something to do with management
Mike - yelled over my questioning placement of stuff in the kitchen, moved in at the same time as Leanne
Mary - rather bland, didn't stay long, don't really remember her
Theresa - Craig's girlfriend, don't remember her
K... - goth, apparently, don't remember his name

I think that's everyone.

And now I go to flat with C. and [livejournal.com profile] maudlinrose. I think I might clear up some of the mess on the floor now and do as much of the rest of my packing as I can.

Moving

So I finally called my parents tonight about my phone, and they're convinced I have the insurance details. I'm sure that they didn't actually send it to me. Unfortunately, the file that it's in if I have it, is packed, and it's quite remarkable the number of boxes I have marked filing. Filing includes anythingn from random scraps of paper, old uni notes, hardcopy writing of mine, t-col stuff, and so on. I don't think I'm going to find it until I unpack, which fortunately, isn't too far away.

Bought a vaccum-cleaner and took some things up to the flat today. When I say things, I mean a few books (since I've been working my way through the Vorkosigan series completely out of order) and most of my framed pictures. Garden Verses still has to go up, and most of the posters, but I'm getting sorted and feel relatively under control. I imagine I'm going to end up with a box labelled 'stuff' which is all those bits and pieces I haven't packed yet because they're either small and bitsy or I think I might need them.

We have had electrians here today. There are now lights in that work easily in the hallway (both sets) and an outside light. It is most impressive, and really, the place does seem rather dingy with them all on. They weren't able to wire within the walls, so there are white plastic casings covering the wires. They stand out somewhat against the blue of the walls. The electricians weren't exactly sure why the wiring still worked, since it fell apart in their hands.

I'm rather glad I'm moving. I'm under control with the packing, aside from the stuff, and things seem to be going well.
