This is the first extended period of time I've had on the internet since the last time I posted and currently I don't care that I'm tying up the phone line; if people want to contact me on a Sunday afternoon for once, they can text me.

I have ridiculous amounts of livejournal to catch up with (ten days and counting) and considering we're on dialup at the moment, doubt I'll manage to do so before I go to Tauranga on the 23rd. I'll be able to catch up on some in Tauranga. I've managed to check my personal gmail/hotmail and trademe (we're finally advertising the motorbike) on the one machine at work that allows access to those sites, but I don't touch livejournal at work.

God, I miss broadband and my own firefox tabs. It's too much effort to install the dialup modem on my machine (and I have to have telephone cords everywhere and move my desk into the middle of my room), so I'm currently on [livejournal.com profile] maudlinrose's machine, since she left for Auckland this morning.

Telecom! I called up in plenty of time, said we were moving, person put it through and said there shouldn't be a problem. Come the evening of the 11th, and we have no landline nor internet. I call Telecom. I spend a lot of time on hold. Over the next day or two, Telecom eventually work out that they were trying to connect to the wrong flat at our address; this despite them asking me every single time I spoke to them if we were the Top Flat at XYZ and getting my confirmation. They book a technician for the following Monday (the 15th).

We start arguing about broadband. Apparently, Telecom failed to notice or to tell me when I said we were moving that the cabinet in the area was full. They call me Sunday afternoon to notify me of this. I object. I call and complain and ask when it will be connected numerous times, spend even more time on hold and am eventually told that a) I am at the top of their list to be connected; b) they are in the process of upgrading the cabinet and this should be complete by the end of January; c) that they will shift over all the connections in February; d) that we will definitely get broadband in March; and d) someone has to give up their broadband connection in our area if we are to get broadband before then. In the meantime, have 30 days free dialup. Do you happen to remember your old username/password?

Well, actually, it's been about five years since I used dialup. No, I don't remember my username, password or how to set it up. Telecom girl confides to me that she's never used broadband and wouldn't have a clue either; can she pass me over to Xtra for instructions? Yes, she can, and perhaps she can see why I would really rather like my broadband back before March? Xtra girl gives instructions, says I should have an internal modem on my computer that should cope with it and asks me if I'm happy with how she's handled my call. Given the limitation that I'm not going to be happy until my broadband is restored, yes, dear, you handled my call just fine.

Telstraclear cable should be installed on 7 January 2009. AWR has said that the biggest problem he had with Telstra was the actual installation, but as this place previously had Telstra, hopefully there won't be too many issues.

I've spent some time this morning doing a bit more tidying and cleaning and generally putting things in a bit more order. We still have some unpacking to do (all the spare linen) and many many boxes to either return or put into storage. Straightened them out, packed away the bubble wrap, so it all looks much tidier now. My room isn't going to feel quite right until I have my jewellery on the walls again, but I need some pieces of dowel or something to hand them from and a backing fabric so the earrings don't scratch the walls.

The cats went into the cattery yesterday. It feels very strange not having them around. They took [livejournal.com profile] tamarillow and I through where they keep the cats and the girl said they usually have their lunchbreaks in the room and keep them company. I feel better having seen the place, but concerned about Jemima, who is both grumpy and doesn't like new experiences.

I'm alone in the house until this evening and again on Monday night, so if anyone would like to come around and keep me company, that would be nice. Comment or text to let me know.
