So, given that I've had the last few to myself, I ended up doing things instead. On Saturday, I filled in for the Cyberpunk LARP—the Ch'akta Peace Accords.

I was Moriah Beau, a xenobiologist... )

Then a group of us went out afterward (I totally bought into [livejournal.com profile] purplesparkler's assertion that Sunday is a day of rest from Lent and after midnight totally counted as Sunday), which mean after I got home at 2am and to sleep around 3am and then got up again around 8am for church since I was helping out, I kinda regretted it. Not enough that I wouldn't do it again, but I did feel somewhat delicate and had two cups of coffee and a cup of tea before lunch...

Had lunch with some of my age group from church, which was nice; I haven't seen most of them for ages, and it was good to catch up.

Then it was out to the Kilbirnie Festival, since I'd said that I would help out collecting for the Red Cross' Christchurch Appeal. [livejournal.com profile] rincewindtvd was there too, and F drove us back to Northland. We went in for a cup of tea and stayed for a bbq after S & S invited us up for dinner. Got home around 8.30, had a shower and more or less collapsed for the night.

Tonight was the regular social grade frisbee game. It was rather windy tonight, which meant for a very low-scoring game. We played Ultimowarriors (I think—Ultimo something, anyway), who are mostly new players. I swear one of the points took half the game. It was fun though, and I was happier with how I played than I have been for a while.

The first time I got this, I was something like 6.45am, which is an hour I loathe being awake at, despite this being a relatively frequent occurance, so I tried again. Have got this twice now.

Work is going well. I'm the only LA there today and tomorrow and I seem to be coping well enough. I've even caught up on some electronic filing - there's not nearly as much of a backlog for PJS now.

Am going to get my eyes checked in a couple of weeks as I think the long-sightedness is getting worse; it certainly is taking me longer to refocus my eyes when I suddenly change what distance I'm looking at something.

On Tuesday, I played for One Crew Over the Cuckoo's Nest instead of Dirty Creature, because the Crew were shorter on people than we were (and because the only non-creature t-shirt I had was the one I wore to the gym that morning and I wasn't prepared to let anyone else wear it). It's the first time I've played a league game for a non-Creature team and it felt very strange not to be in a bright colour. That being said, I played all but the first two points and I played relatively well. I was pleased with how I did and while I was tired at the end, I wasn't completely exhausted and could have probably played another couple of points before saying that it was my turn to have a point off.

I would like whoever came up with the bright idea of having a five minutes whistle to be taken out and shot. I had no idea that such a thing had been introduced, was rather thrown by it and as direct result think it's a stupid idea and should be discontinued. I thought it was the end of the game. It felt like the end of the game - and if they're going to use something like that they should at least start on time!

Playing against the Creatures, I once more noticed that things went a lot better when there were short passes and the disc was worked up and down the field. People seem to be cutting pretty well and disc handling skills (except in the end zone for some reason) are good. It's just the long passes don't seem to work very well most of the time and work brilliantly the rest of the time. I suppose that's a matter of learning how to judge the game and the players. Although as [livejournal.com profile] house_monkey pointed out later, a long pass for some people is a short pass for others and so on.

I do seem to have messed up my ankle a bit; the one I sprained last year. I think it's a combination of the high heels I wore to the wedding and the long game on Tuesday. I know I twinged it on Tuesday at least once and at the wedding, I kept getting the right heel stuck in a crack at the edge of the floor which would then wrench my ankle. I'm going to be in sneakers when I can be for a while, I think; leave the gym until Monday (not that I went today anyway); and take it easy at practice on Saturday. Walking in sneakers seems to be okay, but I'll be wearing the flattest shoes I own to work tomorrow. My shoe heels have been getting progressively lower all week.

Spent most of the week feeling tired and lethargic, particularly at work (only managed to get to the gym twice) but somehow recovered energies for today.

Had an awesome day at the Ultimate development tournament out in Palmerston North, save for the bit towards the end of the third game when I was courting heat stroke just a little too closely for comfort. But a rest in the shade, yet more water, some food and some of [livejournal.com profile] knightclubbing's glucose electrolyte stuff made a huge difference and the following game, I felt, was our best.

Got two fantastic catches today, both of the running and catching with one outstretched hand type. One was even a layout onto my knees! I feel very pleased with myself. Overall, my play was pretty solid. I was happy with my cutting and and general throwing/catching, particularly the forehands. Of course, I missed a few catches I would have liked to get, but they pale in comparison to the two I actually caught. I tried out the handler position and felt that it suited me quite well.

I was generally really impressed with how everyone played. I felt we played as a team, not as a collection of individuals on the same side. People mostly remembered that there are ten seconds before a stall and waited until the right time to throw.

Now, of course, I feel utterly wasted; this occured pretty much as soon as I was half way through the wonderful shower I had when I got home, and am going to make a mug of hot chocolate, find my cat and retire to bed with a book. I am not going to the gym tomorrow.

The flatmates had dinner pretty much ready when I got home (baked good fish, wedges and salad) which saved me from the vague plan I had of asking one of them to go down to the fish&chip shop for me. It was really good and appreciated. Ate a teaspooon of mustard straight from the jar and decided that while I like whole-grain mustard, it really does need a little bread to complement it. Finished up the day with a good phone call from my Mum and new fic on the internets.

Rolled my ankle today playing Ultimate. It's sprained and I have cructches to use, which I am rather incompetent on. Ankle is rather painful, has a tube bandage and is not actually broken. This is a good thing.

It also means that I'm not going to be playing Ultimate nor going to the gym for a while and I shall also be finding a physio and doing exercises. I wonder if my medical insurance covers stuff like this. I should call or text my parents and find out.

It was a fun day at Indoorpendence. I'm glad it was the very last game that I damaged myself.

I think I am going to get flatmates to help me get my bags, find stuff and put the frozen peas away and go to bed. I'm ready for sleep.

Thank you everyone who has emailed or texted or some other way expressed concern. I appreciate it and those I haven't responded to already I will at some time when I'm not just wanting to fall over. Thanks especially to [livejournal.com profile] knightclubbing and J who stayed with me in A&E and kept me company, J offering much useful advice and suggestions.
nishatalitha: image: lots of ladybirds crawling up fencepost. white rope is wrapped twice around top of fencepost (The will to be STUPID)
I have been out every night this week since Monday - Ultimate, groceries, videos, and [livejournal.com profile] darthsappho's birthday dinner, which makes me quite glad I'm not going anywhere tonight. I'm not planning on doing anything tomorrow, either, besides homework. I did manage to get to practice around 10.00am this morning and the plan is to arrive at that time from now on, since I need the agility drills.

We did dishes this evening. There were many because we are very slack at doing dishes and relatively good at cooking, which uses up said dishes. And now none of us feels like cooking, which is a shame, because now I'm kinda hungry.

There is brownie, though. F came up after lunch and we made chocolate-caramel brownies and read on the couch while they cooked. I was reading one of my non-fiction books for the year (I'm rather behind on all this) which I have been struggling through for a while. It's a very dry and dull account of the socio-economic-cultural impact of the Romans on the Visigoths, Goths, Lamboards, and other major Germanic or Spanish tribes and the impact of said tribes on each other, done in roughly chronological order, separated out by geography. Covers some of the Scandinavian impact, too. It's called The Barbarian West 400 - 1000AD by J. M. Wallace-Hadrill and if it wasn't that I have a fairly firm policy on not getting rid of non-fiction books, it would probably end up in the cull pile. It's not that the scholarship is particularly bad, that I can tell; it's just boring. Hopefully, A History of the Jewish People by James Parkes will be more interesting.

C and [livejournal.com profile] maudlinrose threw together what was essentially an antipasta platter and we hadthat for dinner, followed by conversation. It was good. Not that we ate the conversation but we did enjoy talking.

Must go to bed soon. Much homework to do tomorrow.

EDIT: I will note, because I think this is a good thing, that we found the tupperware cake tin that has been missing since we cleaned it just after Christmas today. I have wanted to use it several times since then but couldn't remember where I put it. And I was the one who put it away, I clearly remember that. Turns out it was hidden in our roasting dish. I feel stupid now.

Also, turns out that when you grate nutmeg, the bit you're holding as you grate it looks pretty awesome, all varigated light and dark.
nishatalitha: slightly crumpled white sheets, small text= "sleep now" (Sleep now)
My knees are colourful. Unlike F. I actually remember how they got that way. They only hurt if I kneel on them or bend them too far. For the first time months, I used a normal computer chair all day. It was strange and I want to use my ergonomic kneeling chair again. I will try it tomorrow.

We had dinner at an Italian resturant on Courtney Pl before we went grocery shopping. It was C's suggestion and it was a very good suggestion. I had salmon risotto with rice, cream, spinch, spring onion and pine nuts. It was excellent and I would totally have it again. Then we shared a slice of baked cheesecake for dessert which was nice, but I think I prefer the ones you set. I should make another one (two) someday. It was good.

It is time to go and fall into bed now. The cat is somewhere in my room but I don't know where. Probably on the windowsill.

I have emailed off my registration form for the Ultimate Beach Tournament this weekend. I am glad that I'll have another two days after to recover. Not entirely looking forward to running on sand - I went down to the thing on Wellington Anniversary day for a bit and found that running on sand killed my ankles.

Have been productive today. Cleaned and tidied some of the house, although I didn't finish doing my bedroom. Too many books lying around for that. Made an appointment at the dentist for Monday (I wonder how many fillings they'll say I need) and a couple with gyms to have a look around for tomorrow morning. Went down to Ian Galloway park and threw a disc around for a bit with [livejournal.com profile] mashugenah, [livejournal.com profile] atomicsusan,[livejournal.com profile] house_monkey, [livejournal.com profile] adrexia and S. S. and House_monkey came up for dinner, which was nice, and then things were done to Jack and Greta so they kinda talk to each other now.

Tomorrow afternoon I am planning to go to the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary and have a wander through. Of the three things kinda on my list to do these holidays (Wilton Bush and the Egyptian exhibit being the other two), this is the one I want to make sure I do the most. It will be good. I'm looking forward to it.

I appear to have left my togs up in Tauranga, unfortunately, as I got a text from Mum telling me this morning. I don't think I'm going to need them anytime soon; regardless, it's still time they got replaced as they're wearing rather thin.

Booked tickets to Christchurch for Easter last week. I shall go down and spend time with [livejournal.com profile] thesane and do whatever with her and also spend some time with my brother, who flies up north on the Sunday or Monday, I believe. Or so is the current plan, as I understand it. My brother's plans have gone through several revisions already, so I'll know what's happening closer to the time.

I'm glad I spent a week up with my parents. We went to Matarangi in the Coromandel for the weekend, it being Auckland Anniversary weekend and my parents having a house there, and the most energetic I got was going for two swims in one day. Admittedly, once I get around to getting in the water, particularly surf, I can stay there for hours, but the waves sucked and I don't like having to choose between seaweed touching my feet and good waves. Other than that, I read (mostly books out of the roof which I carted down here), I crossstitched (got inches of my dragon done), I slept, I ate, and watched a couple of DVDs.

After we returned to Tauranga on Monday, we watched the Biggles movie, which I gave to Dad for Christmas. I was expecting it to be really bad, but apart from the plotholes one could fly a Sopwith Camel through, it was really quite fun. While I often see what's happening in books in my head, I rarely see character's faces and to that end, it was quite neat having a different interpretation of it. But why, oh why, couldn't the writers have done something about the two most obvious plotholes: one, Biggles and Algy don't meet Ginger until after WWI and Bertie joins them in WWII and two, if Biggles and the main character are "time twins" and are bound to come to the other's aid when they are in mortal peril, why does this only start happening after Biggles has been on the front for two years! Enjoyed it much more than Sky Captain.

Have a pile of books to update in my catalogue. I'd estimate about a third of my McCaffrey is down here now. As well as all my Elizabeth Moon (Deed of Paksenarrion and prequals only). I don't think I can be bothered just now though.
