We won the SDC!!!
Jan. 22nd, 2008 10:23 pmI had an awesome Anniversary weekend. At Kapcon, I played in
andymacdaddy's Seven Samurai of P-ram to begin with, a More Violence Pro-Wrestling supernatural game in which I got to play two midgets. I played in Gargle past Threep, a time-police game in which I was a member of the Women's Auxiliary and we actually had to do something besides fill out forms. I skipped third round Saturday, ran For the Honour of the Family fourth round, played in The Graduate, another small LARP set in a wizards college and then in one of
house_monkey's Dr Who games sixth (and last) round.
Also on Saturday, I played in the big LARP, Sanctuary. I played Maria, a Lady-in-Waiting from Madrigal and a spy. I was also three months pregnant and thus needed to get married, which I did - to the father of the baby, no less. We'd spent half the game casting speaking looks at each other and abruptly going in the opposite direction before we actually spoke to each other. Maria was remarkably distracted from her job after that.
But my favourite in game moment was something else, although the conversation Berowne and Maria had when they actually spoke again was also very good. Maria was friends with Garramond, Prince of Madrigal and a bard. He had light and dark blue ribbons tied around one arm (which I'd tied on for him) and at one point, he publically announced that they'd stay on his arms until he was able to give them to his One True Love. Later on, he got me to untie them (during which scene said One True Love walked in, congratulated him and fled) and go over to his One True Love and ask Veran to marry him. So I got to walk over with these dark blue ribbons draped over my outspread hands and say "My lord Garramond wishes to offer you these ribbons and with them his hands and his heart." It was awesome.
On Sunday, there's the prizegiving. Most of it is decided on the day - people get given prizes for witty comments and the like. There's a best player, best GM and so forth. But there is also a Scenario Design Competition, wherein one writes a roleplaying game and submits it to the organisers about two or three months beforehand. It is judged by a professional author who is also a gamer and announced on Sunday. G., F. and I submitted For the Honour of the Family, a fourteen person miniature LARP and we won! It weighs in at over 60 pages in .pdf format (with each page once) and over 100 if you print out enough copies for everything. I'm still gloating.
Should anyone need a family-political fourteen person LARP, do let me know and I shall email it over.
Crashed Monday, unsurprisingly and am still tired. Frisbee tonight was challenging. There was a decent wind and a misty rain. I had to decide whether I wanted to wear my glasses and look through fog or not wear my glasses and get a headache. I switched between them.
Took my brother's wedding present in to get framed today. They reckon they might be able to have it done in time; certainly they will call me if they can't. Tried to talk me into lacing it myself and if I'd had the time and didn't need it by next Monday, I probably would have. He remembered me from the last time I was in, about a year and a half ago with my sister's wedding present. Next one that gets done I'll try lacing it myself.
I think I will make my lunch, pack my gym bag and go to bed. Mmmm, bed.
