We lit the fire for the first time last night and it's only April. We should have plenty of firewood to get through the winter. There is much gorse and pine left. It would be nice to have some hardwood, but unless we use the fire every night, which is very unlikely, we should be fine without it. However, I do think that the next time I change my sheets (if this weather keeps up), I will be moving onto flannel. I am looking forward to this as I have new flannel sheets this year.

[livejournal.com profile] tamarillow and I went to the quarterly church meeting today. There were the expected outcomes from the meeting, but we were rather surprised when an older member of the church approached us and said one of us should think about being on the Boulcott Fund Commmittee (the Boulcott Fund being the revenue from the carpark builing the church owns, traditionally given to mission work) and then I was considerably more surprised, when asking someone else about the work involved, that they asked if I would like to become a Deacon! I'm not even sure of all the work a Deacon does, but from my limited understanding, it's probably a rather thankless task.

My hair has been short for just over a week now. It sits on my collarbone and because there isn't the weight to it anymore, the wave has come back in and it bounced up from the length it was cut to (which was why it was cut slightly longer in the first place). I'm not sure if it makes me look older or younger or any less me than I was before. [livejournal.com profile] maudlinrose pointed out that while she's seen me with short hair before and it is thus vaguely familar to her, I haven't had short hair the entire time I've been here. And then she adds that it isn't really short anyway.

I've cooked a little bit this week. I made stock this weekend, vegeterian paella (too bland and even though it says sweet paprika - I used smoked - I'll use normal paprika instead) and baked asian fish (sweet chilli, garlic, ginger and lime juice mostly) with stirfry (red cabbage and other vegetables, peanut oil, ginger and soya sauce but will add brown sugar next time as some people found it too spicy).

Took my spiral ring into a jewellers today. It'll be $35 to get it resized and he will give me a quote on getting it reset for a variety of stones: malachite, jade, tourmaline and anything else he thinks of that might look good. He actually asked if there were pearls in it and was surprised when I said malachite. I can't imagine it looking good with pearls. It looks fine without the stones, but I miss them.
