1: You have to become an acolyte for one of Bujold's 5 gods. Which one and why?
The Daughter - I have a half started festival dress in my closet, even. As to why: because Curse of Chalion is my favourite of those books, and seeing Cazaril adore the Daughter makes me adore her at least a little, too; because the Daughter is Spring and in Wellington, that's wind and wild weather and sun, which I love; because the Daughter is Spring and my birthday is in spring; because the Bastard doesn't fit, not even for the odd loves; because the Daughter is the god of my time and season and gender and I'm quite happy with that; because she's the only one of them who calls to me.
2: What's the best recipe you've acquired from someone in your family?
My Gran's lemon cheesecake. I've acquired many others, but that's one of my favourites.
3: Why do you like Ultimate Frisbee?
The social aspect. Also, it turns out that running is okay if you're going after a disc. Despite all evidence to the contrary, I do like getting out and doing things - I'm just lazy. And it's fun.
4: What's the first book you can remember loving as a child?
I Would If I Could by Betty Miles. It was a book about friendship and bikes and it was also my first experience with a library - I thought Dad had brought it home for me to keep and was somewhat stunned to learn that he hadn't, and that it was collecting library fees. That being said, I never read it again until this year, when I picked it up from the DCM Bookfair.
5: How did you get into embroidery/cross stitch?
My sister had to learn uncounted crossstitch for school and then my Mum decided that we should all learn. It took me three years to finish a small crossstitch of a teddy bear in a white tutu because that bit was white on white and it sucked. Admittedly, it sat in a draw for much of that time, but then we went camping, it started raining and I finished it in a week. I wasn't doing much else. So, when we went into Gisbourne, we went to a craft store and got aida and threads for the next one in the book I wanted to do. I did several out of that book, another teddy bear one (which my parents framed for me one birthday), and then I saw and hunted for the pattern to Mirabilia's Garden Verses, and never quite looked back. About that time,
thesane and I started hanging out at high school, which pretty much sealed the deal. I used to crossstitch for hours on the phone.
