I have a new phone! This is my birthday present from my parents. I approached Dad this afternoon, and reminded him of the fact that he said we'd talk about it when I was in Hamilton, and well, I was in Hamilton now, so could we talk about it? And Dad kinda shrugged and asked what kind I wanted, and that he was going to Dick Smith's now, and if I wanted I could come along and choose a new one.
Did I want? Yes, I did.
So, seeing as they had $100 trade-ins for old, working vodafone phones, I am now the proud (and squeeingly bouncy) owner of a Panasonic X701. It's colour screen, camera and video capable and has all these cool interacting with the internet functions that I don't understand from reading the user's manual. It's charging up for the first time at the moment, so I'm not able to play with it yet. Also got a bluetooth thingy to connect with my pc, and a nice software program, which I think
thesane already owns, called Crossstitch Made Simple, and it does neat things like help you make patterns and stuff.
But my phone! It is so cool. I am all awash with the coolness of it.
Anyhow, my day went as planned: Got up, printed out e-ticket, washed hair, caught the shuttle to the airport, caught the plane up to Hamilton. And, ha! Unlike my brother, I managed to avoid missing my flight. The plane got in early, which was nice, and I was met by the parental units, and off we went to the Tamihere market. Mum bought strawberries and asparagus, and I managed to refrain from buying
maudlinrose any Georgette Heyer books, since none of them were on the list I have of the ones she doesn't have. Then we came home.
And omg, I go away for a while and they turn the place upside down! Admittedly, this has all happened for them in the last couple of weeks, and has been in the planning process for a while, but everything looks different. They're redoing the house, see. And most of this won't mean anything except to
maudlinrose and
thesane, but even so, everything is quite dramatic. All the pictures are off the walls, the front has been painted (raffia2 in the hallway and a gorgeous teal green in the bathroom/toilet/shower), and they're going to take up the lino and put a different one down. It's lovely. The lounge has also been painted the raffia2 colour (a nice beige), and this has yet to be carried through the rest of the living area. The kitchen is 1/4 parchment, which is an off white. Also, they have bought a vent to go over the hole in the ceiling, so after nearly fifteen years, it will be gone. Temporary means at least five years in this household. New carpet is coming - a chocolate brown, and this will go through the upstairs as well. They're also going to do their bedroom, with two walls in terracotta, and two in raffia2. There will be new lino, but I'm not sure what colour that's going to be.
Not only that, but the people are starting to build the place for Matarangi next week! It's a three bedroom prefab with a monoslant roof and lots of windows and doors. Should be there by Christmas. Next door also has a place on it now. From our side of the fence, it's quite ugly, and the fence they have (unpainted, 6 foot pine or something) is worse. It's okay from both the front and the reserve, but it's vastly different to the old state house that used to be there. The owners will be owner/occupiers, which will please my parents.
I am going to go now. As I requested, there is fresh fish! Salmon, no less. Also, scallops and clam and fish chowder. It's starting to smell really good, and I'm hungry. Later, I shall make them look at my embroidery, and probably watch either episode one of Connections or the pilot of Firefly. Or both. But Firefly first.
