Fire, fire, burning bright

I don't know how many people who read my journal work in the Wellington CBD, and get there around 8.30am on a weekday morning. If, today, for some reason you were there, no doubt you would have noticed that the Willis St end of Lambton Quay was blocked off, and that there were multiple fire trucks parked nearby with office workers milling around.
And unless you worked up in the AMI Plaza or higher, you would have passed by, wondering at all the commotion. Whereas we got to spend two hours mucking around waiting to be allowed back into our building.
There was an electrical fault with one of the florescent lights on the 14th floor which caught fire around 8.15am this morning. Shortly after that, the glass was broken, the fire alarm set off, and everyone who arrived slightly early was hurrying down at least 6 flights of stairs. There were photos, but I forgot to send them to myself. I shall do so on Monday, and post them then. Most of the things in that office (except, perhaps, for the files) will have to be scrapped.
So, yes, an actual fire, and not a false alarm.
On the plus side, we had plenty to talk about at work drinks tonight.

Date: 2006-08-07 09:40 am (UTC)So I went back later. At least it wasn't the end of the day, that would have screwed things up big time.
I am all of a sudden aware that you still have my drill, and I need to burrow a hole through my wall for a TV aerial cabale. Would you perhaps be able to bring it along to Confusion this Saturday? I'll catch up with you there and see how things are going with the new job. I was going to say hello the other day when I saw you on the street, but I couldn't. I had this fish see, and it needed to get to a kitchen fast.
Thanks, Troll.

Date: 2006-08-09 08:58 am (UTC)I'll see you on Saturday, with or without drill. However, a 3/4 inch wood borer bit works a lot better when attached to an actual drill.
