Saw the Christmas parade on Sunday. The music was good, and a couple of things stood out to me.
1) The actual marching band looked and acted far more professional than the Sallies, since they stayed in place, and didn't go up to talk to the conductor or people on the sidelines or each other and so on.
2) For the nativity, Joseph had dreadlocks and the baby was real.
Also, I've been meaning to comment on a book here. It's called Midnight Predator, and I can't remember who it's by, since it's at home, and I'm at uni, and it's written by a chick born in 1984. It's not the best book I've ever read, and it's not the worst, but I can clearly see the influence that L. J. Smith had on the author. It's somewhat Nightworldyish. For some reason, this amuses me. I've seen another book of hers in the library, which, from the blurb, appears to have a similar plot to an L. J. Smith fanfic that I read once. One trusts that the book is better - or at least, complete.
is very good. I'm reading it through more slowly this time, though. It's a lot narrower in scope than Curse of Chalion, seeing as you're not dealing with the fate of nations, but the fate of people and demons. Ista is an interesting character. At times, I can see shades of Cazaril, Miles and Cordelia in her, but she is primarily Ista. The god involved is different, and definately has a different relationship with Ista than Cazaril does with the Daughter.
