Today C. and I were invited to lunch by an older couple at church. We actually were invited a couple of weeks ago, but this was when it suited us all. Lunch was good (beef and rice, bok something with mushrooms, broccoli, peas, tomatos with cheese), and the conversation was also good. The discussion fell onto ancestry.

I'm from Hamilton, and most of the relatives that I know are from up that way. I know I have relatives down here (some even bought a house on Northland Rd.), but it's not something I associate with myself very well. So I was somewhat startled, after being asked my mother's maiden name (or my grandfather's surname, take your pick) to be asked if I knew this person, who is actually married to my great-uncle (they're the ones who live in Wanganui, not Wellington), and then having her work out that my great-aunt by marriage's grandfather's second wife was her aunt.

My sister got engaged, finally. The wedding is November 5, and when I talked to them yesterday, she sounded tired and happy, and he was kinda burbling over with bemused joy, and gave me the details on how he asked her, seeking confirmation that it was acceptable in the eyes of her sister. That bit was kinda sweet, but vaguely scary. But apparently, he did ask Dad, and Dad wasn't very hard on him, which he vaguely expected, having been a bit scared of my parents in the past. I reassured him that the sword of damocles (or my father's air pistol) was still hanging above his head, which seemed to make him feel better. So long as they're happy, and I don't have to be involved in planning the wedding in any significant sense whatsoever. Because the battles.

Other than that, lifes continues as usual. I am currently (because it's cold) theorising that we may need to start heating the house soon. I have been menaced by a nasty cold this week, which moves from my nose to my lungs depending on the time of day, so I either can't breathe or keep coughing. This makes life fun.

I had Tuesday and Sunday off this last working week, and I am taking Good Friday through Tuesday off as annual leave. As my workplace uses a rostered system, the annual leave days are supposed to be for rostered-on days one takes off. With my boss' clear knowledge of the system, I am therefore working Monday - Thursday next week. Technically, I should be getting paid for seven days work. It will be interesting to see if this happens, especially since I think I would have rather liked tomorrow off, too, what with being somewhat tired and all.

Also work related, I got to have a conversation with my boss about one of the supervisors. She and I don't get along, see, and we often manage to come out with different interpretations of the same event. This causes issues, which culminated in this one incident last week, which she clearly reported. Anyhow, Zlata asked me what I thought the problem was, and I said I didn't know, but burbled on for a bit until I mentioned the phrase two-way communication. Which she liked, so I elaborated. The conversation ended with me asking Zlata to find out what my supervisor's problem with me was, and me saying that I'd try to work faster. I was right in the last incident, though.

We are continuing with our gardening (fourteen herbs!) and the lack of doing the dishes (we're onto the spare mugs!). C is away this week, cat-sitting, so we'll be using fewer dishes.
