After I meet Alessan for lunch, I wandered into town, stopping in Farmers (sale) and Goldings (sale), but managed to avoid buying anything, for which I feel very proud. Told
maudlinrose about some Heyer books in Bizzy Bees that she was after, and after some food, we went into Dick Smith's so I could ask about this bluetooth thing. After quite a while of fiddling, they managed to work out that the Hamilton store had actually sold me one that doesn't work for my particular phone! This means I have to find my receipt, which I have placed somewhere so safe that I can't actually find it, or call my parents and ask Dad for his copy of the receipt, so I can take it back into the store and exchange it for one that actually does work with my phone!
maudlinrose asked me last night if I actually used my teapot. Yes, I do use it, and my third cup from it this afternoon is a very similar colour to the teapot itself! Still a drinkable temperature, too, although a bit bitter. However, I am starting to see why people used tea cozies. Which is not saying that I want one, because they're ugly and my teapot is pretty.
Music isn't working at the moment, which is annoying, and I haven't gotten around to putting a CD on the CD player yet, which means the only sounds around are the downstairs neighbours, the wind outside, my fingers typing on the keyboard, and the computer humming. The typing and the wind compete for being the loudest.
So after
maudlinrose and I went our seperate ways, I went up Cuba St., obsentiously to catch the bus, but really to go into Graphics and see if the Serenity issues that the guy promised me would arrive in a week several weeks ago had arrived yet. I checked over the displays, because sometimes I see something interesting, and there was a new Astro City sitting on the shelves. Preferring to look through my own copy, since I automatically get issues put aside for me, I asked for my folder to be checked, and lo, and behold, there were two of the three Serenity issues there (and some things said in the movie are making a little more sense now), but no Astro City!
Abandoning the comics on the front counter, I actually grabbed the Astro City, and actually started flicking through it. I immediately realised why it wasn't in my folder - it was the latest compilation, Astro City: Local Heroes, Cool, compilations, I like those, and I have all the Local Heroes set in individual format. But I flicked through it regardless, because I haven't read them for a while, and lo and behold, I find an issue that I didn't expect to see there, and one I've never read before. A bit more flicking made me realise that this is not just the Local Heroes compilation. This is everything since Astro City: Tarnished Angel except for the guidebook, and including issue I was vaguely aware existed, but was the one before I started collecting, and never actually have seen in stores, as well as the 9/11 story that I only ever saw in Mark1 in Hamilton, didn't buy, and have regretted not doing so ever since.
So, yeah, I bought them all. Which made my day very expensive in the end, but I think it's worth it. Serenity and Astro City I haven't read yet.
I should have other things happening in my life, but apart from being tired of my job, applying for new ones and being geeky about books, I really don't. I did lead cell group on Wednesday about what we/I can learn about prayer from some fantasy novels, in particular The Curse of Chalion and other Five Gods Universe books, which I think went okay. I am also doing a lot of crossstitch lately. I still have that goal of finishing my pattern piece before the end of the year, and it might actually be acheivable.
Dragonsong, Anne McCaffrey
Dragonsinger: Harper of Pern, Anne McCaffrey
Dragondrums, Anne McCaffrey, as requested by
maudlinrose and the above two because I couldn't just bring the last one
Decision at Doona,Anne McCaffrey
Crisis on Doona, Anne McCaffrey
Treaty Planet, Anne McCaffrey, because I felt like rereading them
The Lester Family Trilogy, Stephanie Laurens, so I have all the books by her that I own in one place (that would be the grand total of three)
Temporary Agency, Rachel Pollack, because it's sf lesbian something or another and it weirded me out the first time I read it, and now I want to reread it
The Best of Marion Zimmer Bradleys Fantasy Magazine, MZB (editor), because it has the story in it that I've been collecting the Marion Zimmer Bradley Sword and Sorceress Magazine for, and it's not Tarma and Kethry, but Frostflower and Thorn
Magic's Pawn, Mercedes Lackey
Magic's Promise, Mercedes Lackey
Magic's Price, Mercedes Lackey, because my sister returned the three of them to me (they're her favourite Lackey books, which either says something for the quality of the writing, or the plot, and she bought the entire Left Behind series with the money she got for her 21st birthday)
Cuckoo's Egg, C. J. Cherryh, because I've had Cherryh recommended a bit to me lately, and this is the only one that I own, and I own the Wellington Public library at least $10 before I can get out any more books
I think there's one more, but I can't remember what it is at the moment, so nothing important.
My plans for the rest of the evening involve reading fic, watching America's Next Top Model, and seeing if sound still works for DVDs, in which case I shall watch some more Kenshin, and maybe read some more of the books Alessan loaned me. I have three and a half left in my pile, of which I'm rereading one (borrowed it because of the aforesaid owing Wellington Public Library money). If anyone wants to distract me from these plans, I'm off work tomorrow, and am bored.
