So, roleplaying.

The new campagin for Earthdawn is called Banefyr. Why, I'm not entirely sure yet. The last campagin was called Shadows of Dreams, which upon reflection, is a perfectly appropriate name. A. has a nasty sense of humour. And he's died his hair black. Something about this worries me.

We were given five years off (our characters, I mean), and A. sent us this as a lead up to it:

"You will all be visited by Lao-Sang at various intervals, he usaully makes an appearance once a year, and has been granted an amnesty of sorts to enter Glenwood Deep (Windling Kingdom) as long as he doesnt mind being under constant supervision. In the year before the game is to restart, you are visited by Kung-Tzo alone, who is growing increasingly more concerned with Lao's distracted demeanour and failure to attend to his duties at the Monastry, he puts it down to Lao getting bored with Monastry life after the waking nightmare you lot put him through 5 years ago......."

Wasn't that nice of us. I can't be bothered attaching my backstory. Suffice to say, I now have a shiny crystal sword (Norfressa), magical chain mail (Norfram) and magical gauntlets (Krashnark). I've got level one threads to my sword (one to me, one to melee weapons), and one level one thread to my mail.

Banefyr, Session One.

I had just given up travelling with my latest party - Lothos was starting to get on my nerves, and most of them were travelling to Parlainth, and I didn't want to go back there just because it was there to go back to. I value my hide more than that. Traipsing into horror-ridden citites is not really my idea of fun.

I was thinking about where I was going to go next, considering the possibility of returning back to my family's village for a month or so, since I wasn't too far away. I was on the Serpent River, after all. Kung-Tzo came for a visit, and requested my help. He was also asking everyone else, but neither Lysander nor Zen-sai could make it. I wasn't at all surprised about Zen-sai. He did say that he was going back to the monastary, and not coming out again. Lysander had hung up his sword, but I was surprised that he wasn't willing to pick it up again. I guess what happened five years ago scared him more than I expected.

Kung-Tzo told us about the monastary in the Dragon Mountains that Lao-Seng lived in, explaining that it was the head of the monastary who was permitted to have a child, and no other monks were allowed to. A son always inherited the position, and if it was a daughter, then special rituals had to occur. However, this girl-child, Kasia, was the seventh daughter born in a row. And this meant that upon her sixteenth birthday, she was going to become the spiritual dragon guardian of this monastary.

However, she had been kidnapped by a monster, horror-corrupted, but they didn't think that he was acutally a horror. Troll size, he said, with four arms. And the first party that the monastary sent out after the girl and the monster, just didn't come back. And this is a monastary that is basically dedicated to the martial arts! I've seen some of their training, and Lao-Seng in action. Lao-Seng, without permission, set out after the monster. He tracked him to Parlainth, and entered that fair city with two adventurers, a Human and a Dwarf. Lao-Seng was captured, and Kung-Tzo believes that he's still in the city.

I was requested to report in at Vargigal's Lore and something or another, but it turned out to be very easy to find. Vardigal's a T'Skrang who has set up a very prosperous trading shop here. The receptionist said I was the first to report in at Vardigal's tavern/inn thing, and when we'd all arrived, we'd be met by the two men. The place teemed with adventurers. Most were lower Circle than I am - I am nearly Fifth Circle, after all - but the serious adventurer's were of higher Circle than I am.

I reported in and wandered around. Rhyanna arrived next, and I saw her as she was chatting to a Human. Who actually seemed to be trying to pick her up, or so I teased. As a Nethermancer, she's less likely to be approached by males or females of any species, even if she's as lovely as all Elves are. She suggested that he was trying to pick me up, and I spent the next five minutes howling with laughter. I think I scared the young man.

Tash and Trent turned up much the same time. I was rather surprised at Trent's seeming lack of skill. I'm sure that he hadn't let them drop, yet here he is, acting the bumbling fool, as though he wasn't even First Circle. After they arrived, however, we were informed by the barkeep that a meal was being put on for us in a private room. When we went down - I eventually decided not to restrain myself, and wore a jerkin over my chain mail, my gauntlets clipped to my belt, and my sword openly. There was much finger food, and Trent pigged out. Literally. I think he'd forgotten how to use cutlery.

Waiting for us were a Dwarf and a Human mage. The Dwarf, I found out, was a Horror-Stalker, and I couldn't resist dropping the fact that we'd been Nemisis' pawns for a while to him. Not that I quite put it that way, of course. I do have my pride. The Human was an illusionist, and something about the way he acted made me suspicious of the man who'd approached Rhyanna.

Kung-Tzo turned up, vanished, and returned again after we'd settled down. He gave us more information, and suggested, ever so politely, that we might want to make our way into Parlainth on the next day. He also reassured the two new members of our party that we were actually competant. I tried to claim normalcy, but Kung-Tzo didn't back me up on this one.

The following day, Trent and I purchased a map and I brought a quartz lantern. Something that doesn't need fuel is good. We made our way into Parlainth. We were going to the Twists, an area that had been the homes of the wealthy. It took us a long time to make our way in, as there were traps, and some of the Foul Folk (the black skinned Human's we'd seen on our last visit) tried to attack us. We killed a few and they scarpered.

We were then attacked by an underground worm thing. This made Ruric, the Horror-Stalker rather happy. He likes killing things. Seems to be on a crusade to get rid of all that is evil with the world. Then a monster in the guise of a scared teenage boy knifed Trent in the stomach, and brought the worm thing back to life after Ruric had killed it. I killed that monster, and Ruric rekilled the worm thing.

We made our way further in, and as we entered the Twists, we passed an Orc pinned to the wall with a spear through his throat. He was still alive, so Tash insisted on trying to heal him. We eventually cut him down, and after the last innocent looking thing, I didn't trust him worth a damn, so I kept my sword at his throat. When he moved, I killed him.

It felt gooood.

I promptly weirded out myself and everyone else by feeling really good after killing the Orc. When one of his ribs popped up - and his eyes were still staring in horror, Trent grabbed me, and pulled me away. Ruric had gone on ahead and returned, and Tash stayed. She wanted to stop his misery. I'm not entirely sure what she did - I was too busy being sick - but when she returned with Rhyanna, Rhyanna was reassuring her that he was at peace. I think a Horror was playing with him.

We regrouped, and prepared to continue.

Must go to class now.
