My degree ruined a book for me yesterday. Now, while I'm accustomed to being seriously disturbed by the combination of childhood memories and my current reading material (ie. slash fanfiction), I've never had my degree ruin a childhood favourite before. It ruined Clive Cussler's Trojan Odessy, but I didn't care too much about that, since the quality of his writing has gone down since I started reading him. But having my degree ruin Ship of Adventure, by Enid Blyton, I found quite upsetting. Yes, it shows all the signs of being written a few decades ago, with the archeological knowledge and English superiority of foreign cultures, but waaahhh... I used to like that book.

Have been talking to [livejournal.com profile] thesane a bit lately, since she's at home sick, and we end up online at the same time, which is quite nice. There was conversation involving 15C Italian dance, Italian and math (with reference to pizzas); proto-houpellandes and why I'll never get around to making one; my jewellery dream story; and elves and the killing thereof by cold irony. And that was just last night! I also edited [livejournal.com profile] anschee's essay and made the icon I'm currently using. A photoshop and Bujold kick, what fun.

After an insanely busy week so far, today I was training the new person. I seem to be the training-girl at the moment. Not that this is a bad thing, because indeed it is not, but I had a headache by the end of the day, since I seem to be coming down with a cold. We also managed to embarass Zlata, the whole Housekeeping lot of us, since it's her birthday. There was singing, cake with candles, flowers, a present, and a shared lunch. She was surprised, grateful to an extent, and politely requested that we not do it again next year. *laughs* The lunch was kinda constrained by the presence of the general manager and the sales and marketing manager being in the staffroom. It's not that they're not lovely people, because they are, it's just that they're exec and kinda weird to have around.

C. will be coming over later to watch Dr. Who, and that should be fun. I have leftover beef stroganoff for dinner and plan to go to bed early. Like, before 11pm. I've been in bed before midnight the last couple of nights. Surely I can be in bed before eleven. Sleeping is a good thing. It might get rid of my headache, too.

I should point out that The Ship of Adventure is set on the Aegean Sea, and involves cruise ships, motorboats, a labyrinth, a column with a staircase below it, hidden treasure, and the copy of a map to the treasure that is hidden inside a ship, later put in a glass bottle, and the map is (circa 15C, I think) later cut into four pieces with scissors!
