So [Unknown site tag] and I were discussing potential birthday presents for [livejournal.com profile] thesane to give [livejournal.com profile] maudlinrose, and we sidetracked onto costumes, and dresses that she's making, and then I mentioned that I might like to make an outfit for the Daughter's Day celebration from Curse of Chalion, along the lines of what Iselle wears when she acts as the Daughter's avatar on the day. I know a number of people really like the Bastard as being the most popular/likable god in that universe, but when I fell for this series, I fell for Cazaril first, and for the Daughter alongside him. The Daughter of Spring is the god most suited to me due to my age, status, and sex, and really, I'm quite happy with that. The Bastard is amusing, to be sure. But I like the Daughter, and if I'm going to go to the effort of making a costume from this universe, it'll be in her colours.

So, I got a wealth of helpful advice on 15thC costumes, fabrics, colours, design, and so on. So, it appears, if I find the right fabric (blue drill, I think), I will be attempting to make a corset for myself, and work from there. I can do lots of embroidery in the blackwork style. But, you know what's scary? I think I'm serious about this. Of course, where I'll wear this thing other than cons, I don't know.

And I still have to keep working on theology and fantasy, which I'm currently talking about more than actually doing. And there's the research for Lace and Steel, which depends entirely on whether I can be bothered finishing reading the various books I have. I really want something on courts during this time, and that means I'm either needing to go to the library, or find some novels set in this period. There's the Diana Gabaldon ones, but they're slightly too early, and not really court like. I can probably find some trashy romances somewhere.

Essentially - excuse to read my history books. Because I'll never do it unless I have a reason, and this is a good enough excuse.
