Aug. 4th, 2004 09:19 pmI seem to be quoting a lot of things lately. For the grammar lovers amongst you, what is wrong with the sentence below?
"Silence! Unless Mr. Thomas you would like to attain further demerits?"
I'm not entirely sure why I'm reading the rest of this fic. But that sentence just makes me wince.
There have been a lot of roadworks around Northland lately. Or rather, a lot of road-painting has been going on. I watched some the other morning while I was waiting for the bus to school. It was doing the white lines, and I think they were doing it with strips of paint or something (like twink rollers), because there is a small gap in the white lines very regularly. Oh, and the paint was steaming. Look the next time that you go through the Karori tunnel.
Today, they chucked some clear, sandy looking stuff on lines that were already painted, and then heated it with this nifty looking machine.
I think they're doing more painting tonight.
Sometimes, I'm surprised at what amuses me.
I haven't done very much cataloguing lately. Been busy. But at work today, and this was so nice, I didn't have to do any shelf-reading. Instead, they collared me before I'd even started shelving, and had me put new labels onto the spines of books and cover them with plastic. And Twinkle, the cat, came to visit. She has this very piercing meow, and then as soon as you pay attention to her, she starts purring very loudly. She's black, very fluffy and very light. Quite a change after Basil, or even Gemima (who is currently sitting as close as she can get to my heater).
I'm up to Heyer, Georgette, in the cataloguing.
EDIT: I'm not sure if the author of the above fic has even heard of commas.

And should that be 'grammar lovers' or 'grammar whores'? ;-)
