Tonights game, and then I'm up-to-date again. Three games so far and I was already starting to fall behind.

There was a few weeks between our last mission and the next one. I worked part time at Umbrella with their Euthanatos mage. He was wary of me, since I'm Errant, but we get along okay and he's really pleased to be able to work with someone who actually understands magic, even though we're from different traditions.

I must ask him what he thinks of what I've got planned for my wards. I'm making most of this up as I go along. Oak and ash and rowan for the magic. Miseltoe too. Lavender and rue. It's all for protection and a lot of it to remain unnoticed, save as the friendly lady who lives alone. I go along to the community bake sale and get to know people a little.

We're called out next on a two part mission. The first is to meet a man, who is a Hunter, as are two of my companions. The second part is to go with him to meet another man who will take us to treat with a ken of Werewolves.

The man, Edward Carnby, is interesting. He's recently arrived from America... something to do with a Werespider on the Pentex team and he doesn't want to return until things have cooled down a little. He's a big man with long dark hair and a gorgeous leather duster and interesting guns. Oh, and spurs. Don't forget the spurs. He's Texan, you see, and has the accent to prove it. Think of a modern day Van Helsing and you're on the right track.

We had a chat and learned things about the Werewolves. Organising gifts was a good idea. Eventually, I arrived at the idea that I should treat them like I would irate customers back at the cafe and that should work. Carnby forgot to mention that they can make themselves angry and throw themselves into some sort of super rage, though. Rather annoying that. And they can heal others without paradox and probably themselves as well.

Carnby reckoned that so long as they didn't recognise them and he and Damien stayed quiet and keep their mouths shut, and the rest of us were polite and respectful, we should be fine.

Fine words from a fine gentleman. The Werewolves, a Black Fury ken did recognise Carnby and we had to run something called the Gauntlet, a rite of passage for their young ones, in order to have our request recognised. Fortunately, being human, we could do it collectively. There were three tests; strength, wits and courage.

We sent Damien in for the strength test. They already knew and respected Carnby, so it was better that we chose a member of our actual team rather than someone they already knew of. He won, with some difficulty - that rage thing coming into play.

The riddle was interesting. We managed to get it without too much difficulty or requesting clues.

A rope breaks. A dog barks. A man dies.

I was sure that I'd heard it before, and so was Anna, but neither of us could think of the answer straight away, so we collectively worked it out. Kudos to Hilda and Damien for triggering things for me.

Hilda took the third test, the one of courage. She had to lie down and submit to some great slathering beast of a wolf. It took some doing for her, but she completed it relatively unscathed.

Lisa, the alpha and Howls-For-Blood, the enforcer agreed to enter negociations with us and we gave over the aloe plant (you can never have too much aloe) and the antique dagger that we'd organised for gifts. The dagger went to the cub that Damien defeated as a learning tool.

After that, the three hour walk back to the edge of the Black Forest took three and a half hours and Carnby's spurs were most annoying. Clink. Clink. Clink. The whole damn way back to the care. The man's attractive, but gods, he's annoying.

However, Umbrella have retained him to clear out one of Pentex's old factories and he's asked us to come along for backup. Should be fun. And there's a week 'til Samhain. I have no one to celebrate it with, so I'll hold a private ritual at home, in the back of my garden where I'm making a circle glade. The majority of my protective wards should be up by then, although perhaps not the obscurity ones.

...I wish I knew who killed my cabal. I miss them.
