Occasionally, over the past few years, I've wished in the vaguest of ways that I was more heavily involved in fandom. However, I've had that desire completely knocked out of me, and I am quite happy that the only fandom I am involved in as fandom is Lois McMaster Bujold, and that primarily in the form of a mailing list. I have never been so glad as I am now that I was only ever involved in fandom for the fic and the slash. And it's all because of this. I only caught the very beginning; the first Cassandra Claire plargarism debacle and the move to Fiction Alley and Schnoogle. I had no idea all this was going on, and it's scarily fascinating and disturbing.

I had the delightful experience yesterday of finding that my workmate F. not only knows but likes Era, the group I keep mentioning here, with each comment on them falling into the black hole of the internet. I've invited her over for dinner on Saturday, and since she mentioned liking Emma Shapplin, whom I am also rather fond of as an artist, amd Sarah Brightman (I like her in Phantom of the Opera), I thought she might appreciate some music videos I have of them. I said: "Era." She said: "Ameno?"*

Have been cleaning, both in preparation for F's visit, and to make it easier to tidy when my parents are down in three weeks. If I sweep the ceilings and dust thoroughly now, there'll be less to do then.

Must go start dinner soon, or at least finish defrosting the meat, since [livejournal.com profile] maudlinrose and I are going to Serenity tonight. The tickets are sitting on my desk. I also need to rescue my necklaces from behind my dressing table, since the nifty display I just made fell down. Something stronger than bluetac should work... EDIT: Ended up using a strip of gold satin I had lying around and drawing pins. It's not stretchy, so the effect is much the same. And then I did the same for my solid bracelets on a different piece of fabric.

*One of their tracks for which I have the music video.

Well, the smoke escaped from [livejournal.com profile] maudlinrose's computer that we were going to use for a flat firewall, the washing machine exploded and flooded the house and the downstairs tenants place in the middle of a thunderstorm on Friday (pipe split from the pressure), maudlinrose and I spent last night at the Sharella Motar Inn on Glenmore St. and Jemima spent it, tonight and however many nights it takes for the carpet to dry at [livejournal.com profile] darthsappho's, and oh yes, my former landlord is going to evict my ex-flatmates if they're not out by Tuesday. By ex-flatmates, I am, of course, referring to Steve and Cameron, because I have no idea what the fuck is going on with them. [livejournal.com profile] anschee is under control, as I am well aware. C. gets back to Wellington on Monday, I am almost unpacked, apart from all the books, and we should be able to get the network set up tomorrow. I miss broadband on my computer. It never rains but it pours.

Thank God I have Sunday and Tuesday off.

I have had a good couple of days. Sure, I worked Friday, and that was thirteen checkouts of fourteen rooms, but other than that it's been good. C. and I went over to Alessan's on Friday night to return books and borrow more. We caught the 6.30pm bus because the 6.00pm one didn't come, and I might get around to actually complaining about that.

He (evil man!) showed us the first episode and a half of Crusade, a documentary narrated by Terry Jones on the crusades. It was rather good, and held us enthralled for a while. We didn't manage to make off with the rest of the first season of Connections, though, since he wants to do a marathon type thing. The problem is - when?

I also borrowed the DVD of PotC, since I've been wanting to watch that recently (thanks to fanfic), and by the by, I watched the trailer for PotC 2 this evening, and I also borrowed the first part of Rurouni Kenshin. Although the thing that has been completely and utterly distracting me today is the complete orchestral works of Handel, which I also borrowed. I've found that I rather like classical music, particually Handel and Beethoven, and others. Which means that Era, the Serenity and Firefly soundtracks have been getting rather short shrift today. Also, problems importing the CD. I can play it, though.

Had fish & chips with my cell group for an end-of-year thing, and then C. and I went shopping. First for [livejournal.com profile] jessikast's Christmas present, and then groceries. I think I said something about not wanting to go shopping at the Wakefield St. New World on Saturdays? I really should remember that. And then it was home and bring in the washing before the rain started. And more Handel.

Have downloaded the pictures of the kittens from last week onto the computer, and will post them when I've gotten around to sorting everything out. I should totally make a kitten icon.

Oh, [livejournal.com profile] bl9_knt, you should check out a TV series called Threshold. Alessan showed us some of it last night, and it involves a scary (and practical) alien invasion, and massive breaches of civil liberties. Sounds right up your alley, considering how much you liked Spooks.

EDIT: Although I was just fiddling with the defragmenter and other aspects of my computer, and was totally startled to find that of my 40 GB hard drive, I only have 2.63 GB left. It occurs to me that I should probably get another hard drive. What do the computer experts who read here suggest? I'm going run the virus check and try and work out what I can delete that I don't actually use, although I'm wary of doing that, in case I delete something important. I'd like to work out how much of that is music...

I have had a good day. I feel rested and well, and while not precisely enthusiastic about going back to work tomorrow, feel more than capable of it. It's felt like a holiday day, which probably has something to do with the weather...

My washing (which I actually hung out) should be dry soon, and I did an amazing amount of weeding. Not that it's really possible to tell where I pulled things out, because there's so much of it, but I've ended up with two garbage bags full of weeds. And the great thing about gardening here? There are so many weeds that unless you try and chop down the pohutukawa or pull out the basil or chives I planted on Saturday, you really can't go wrong. It doesn't even matter if most of the mint is removed - it grows really fast here and will take over the garden in a few weeks again!

Haven't done most of the other things I vaguely planned on doing (cleaning the stove for example, but have caught up on reading and rereading fanfiction, books borrowed from Alessan, and can start on the others soon.

Had Lace & Steel last night. It was most amusing, especially when dice come into play. I know I'm superstitious about my dice for a number of reasons. It amuses me. It means I don't have to be superstitious about anything else. And some of my dice really do roll better for me than others. [livejournal.com profile] mashugenah eventually became so disgusted with how badly he was rolling that he threw them out a window, where they will sit and decompose for the next thousand years. He spent the rest of the evening borrowing dice from the rest of us, and apart from one occasion, finding that they didn't roll any better for him than his had.

Also, there were kittens. Slightly bigger now, and their eyes are starting to open. They are very cute. Will post pictures when I get around to sticking them on the computer.

EDIT: Have done things that I vaguely planned on doing - cleaning the bench, microwave and stovetop. All were rather messy. It took a while.
