[livejournal.com profile] tamarillow and I went up the hill into the town belt to watch the fireworks tonight. I had a post composed which said: "Sometimes, the best art is ephemeral" and used my things go boom icon.

That was before I missed a ledge cunningly hidden in long grass, slipped down the last part of the hill, landed on the hardpacked ground, getting the nerve in my left ankle and directly on my left knee.

The ankle isn't badly damaged - I've rolled the right one much worse and it normally sorts itself out in a day or two. That will be fine.

The knee, on the other hand... It's not as dramatic as the time when I slipped down the stairs when I lived at Harbour View, and certainly not as bad as the time I sprained my right ankle, but it's impressive nonetheless. It's rather swollen and turning an odd shade of red/brown (which will then go blue...). Have iced it on and off for the last hour or so, taken painkillers and anti-inflammatories and hopefully more RICE will sort it out.

I am taking tomorrow off work, since I'm not sure I will be able to walk. I very much doubt I will be at frisbee practice on Saturday, either.

EDIT: and then there's the bit where I hsve to go in to work tomorrow, since my lawyers are out of town and ther's a settlement and I'm the one who knows the file... dammit. I was starting to look forward to a day of sitting and reading. At least work will pay for a taxi.

People, I accidentally managed to put my cellphone through the washing machine. This is the same way my last one died (about four or five years ago, because I was still living at Harbour View Rd then). I'll get a new one in the next month or so. In the meantime, I am contactable by email or landline.

I may be able to borrow one that will take my sim card...

So I had my first exam for this year today. This is exam five out of six over three years and the one I'm most concerned about. I don't do any litigation work at work, so I have no practical experience in the field. However, I didn't have any omg I have no idea what that is moments, which is only kinda reassuring. I was also writing very very close to time and I probably lost some marks on the drafting for lack of neatness (and yes, they can and do do that, despite it all being done by word processing nowadays). One more to go. I really hope I pass this one - it would be incredibly embarassing and shameful if I failed. I even studied!

Then I came home and since one of the players was away, we did a flashback episode to the black ice planet on which we found an alien archive. I managed to roll minus 4 (a critical failure) that delighted the GM and saw my script-immune character dumped completely under in a pool of black goo (very technical term for an alien liquid of interesting chemical composition). Then I voluntarily put myself in the hands of the alien archive and allowed it to reconfigure my brain on the fly so I could try and save the other two people who had also fallen into the substance, but not managed to get out.

...I note this was acceptable for me to do so because I volunteered to do so, with full knowledge that this was an untried and untested experiment by an alien on myself. Informed consent was more or less in place. It's not like we can have the alien archive up on charges for undue influence.

Had to jettison some of the alien archive which had contaminants in it (humans) and that will probably end up in one of the undersea volcanos. That hurt because I was still tied into the system at the time...

Had a lovely crazy fannish evening with more to follow for the rest of the weekend. The part where we got home around 10.45pm and then talked for another hour or so (variously on why my parents gift giving currently fails, how they do not understand me, why food is awesome, how we are becoming increasingly open about periods and the effects thereof in public, and the joys of controlling the panadol at work) was perhaps not so bright. Especially since I have a bit of a headache (probably dehydration)

The next two days are going to be very social - I'm not going to be at frisbee practice tomorrow morning - and we have to leave the house, at, like, 8.40am. It's going to be awesome.

Also, I have now offically passed my refresher first aid course, so if you get injured around me, the next couple of weeks would be the best time for that to happen. Of course, if I'm the one who gets injured, all bets are off, because I'm a stubborn fool who dislikes going to A&E.

...the part when you're the person who has had the most random injuries in the room and there are others on the course play contact sports is kinda embarassing. Of course, it could be that I just talk about mine more. I'll choose to believe that.

Which reminds me - can people nag me to do balancing exercises on my right ankle again? It's been dickier than usual recently and I should do some work on that before frisbee starts again.

Things that were good about today:

  • Walking into work and it not raining;
  • Finding out that insulation is going to be installed in our ceiling;
  • Eating outside in the sun;
  • Reading more about John Zizka;
  • Buying a Settlers of Catan expansion pack for my brother's birthday present;
  • Catching the 7.15pm bus home; and
  • Leftover cake

Things that were not so good about today:

  • Accidentally leaving my cellphone at home;
  • One of my lawyers having too much work as well as a sick child;
  • Stuff that had to be done now making me slightly late to my lecture;
  • My lecturer throwing a mock test; and
  • Annabelle throwing a blue-screen-of-doom hissy fit and losing all my firefox tabs. Again.

    It wasn't so much my lecturer throwing a surprise mock test that bugged me about it, it was that he was trying to get the timing into our heads and thus allowed minutes for the short answer questions and then took them off us. I'm used to doing my short answer questions and then going back to them after the drafting is complete, which, of course, I couldn't do and my marks reflected that.

    I don't think I'll walk into work tomorrow. Not because I'm tired or want to wash my hair in the morning (although both those are true), but because my books for my Wednesday class weigh a ton and I need to find my copy of the Personal Properties Securities Act and add that to the pile.

It's possibly time for me to get my eyes checked again. I'm aware I say this periodically, but I mean it this time. More or less, anyway.

I say this mostly because there's a clock in my lecture room beside the whiteboard. I sit about halfway down the room. I spent half the lecture with my reading glasses on and can't tell the time. That bit is okay. The bit where I then can't read the clock without any glasses on is slightly more disturbing. I can read it okay with my normal glasses on though.

Actually, they're probably fine. It's not like I'm getting migraines or anything.

[livejournal.com profile] morbane - I'm going to have to bow out of both plans; I've looked at my calender and it seems I already have things on... Next weekend with little on is Queen's Birthday. Have to say, I'm looking forward to it.
